How to Wash a Georgette Saree at Home

Georgette is relatively easy to look after compared to silk, but its fine crinkled surface snags easily, so gentler handling than a everyday fabric matters.
Washing
Hand-wash in cold water with a gentle liquid detergent. Never squeeze or wring a georgette saree — press it between clean towels instead to remove excess water.
Drying and ironing
Drip-dry on a hanger rather than laying it flat. Iron inside-out on the lowest setting, or use a steamer, which is gentler on the crinkled surface and gives the best result.
Storage
Store rolled rather than folded — a sharp fold line on georgette is difficult to fully smooth out again, while rolling avoids the crease entirely. Keep it in a breathable cotton cover, not airtight plastic.
Stains
Blot immediately with a clean, dry cloth — never rub, which can snag the weave as well as spread the stain. Take anything beyond a fresh, easily blotted mark to a professional cleaner.
