How to Care for a Tussar Silk Saree

Tussar is a wild silk, textured and slightly uneven by nature rather than by flaw, and it appreciates the same careful first wash as linen before regular care.
The first wash
Dry-clean a Tussar saree the first time, to set its natural sizing, the same way you would for linen.
Washing after that
Gentle hand-washing in cold water is fine for Tussar from the second wash onward. Avoid rubbing or wringing, as with any silk.
Ironing
Iron Tussar cool, on the reverse side, with a pressing cloth between the iron and the fabric — the same precaution as for other silks, protecting the surface from direct heat.
Storage
Store in a breathable cotton or muslin cover, never airtight plastic. Interleave acid-free tissue if the saree carries embroidery or heavier surface work, so nothing catches on the fold beside it.
